We arrived in Corsica at 6am this morning by ferry from Toulon (a port between Nice and Marseilles) …the sun is gloriously warm, but the air is still very fresh. It was 16C/61F in the morning and 19C/66F, maybe higher this afternoon.
It’s been many years since I arrived in Corsica so early in May; we were surprised to see how much snow is still in the central mountain range (2700 meters/nearly 9000 feet). These mountains with the Golfe d’ Ajaccio in the foreground are a very prominent feature as we sit on our terrace allowing the sun to warm us and the terra-cotta tiles. This photo doesn’t do the snow-capped mountains justice; you may think the white in the center to the left of the dark green headlands are clouds; but no– that is heavy snow on our mountains. I forget how awe-inspiring this view is, especially when you first open the terrace shutters.
I am so happy that I am here – spending nearly 4 weeks getting U Castellu ready for a busy schedule of guests renting our home this summer from 1st June 1st to 24th August; we have all but the last week of August and the first week of Sept booked.
Life is good to us. It’s especially wonderful here; I am so glad we can share this amazing Mediterrean island and our welcoming home with so many others around the world.
